Baptism
Baptism

Baptism is the sign for Sacrament of Welcome into the Catholic community. It is the first of three essential Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
Baptism requires a learning process by the parent(s) who are the first educators of their children in the ways of the faith. Baptism is a lifelong process, not an instant transformation. We prepare for the celebration with new clothes, water to help us grow, a candle to light the way, oil for strength and companions for the journey.

Parents are encouraged to contact the St. Mary Magdalene parish office in advance to receive an information handout about Baptism.  The Resource Centre in the Monsignor Boyd Family Centre has resource videos and other information on Baptism. Single parents, babies and Godparents are all welcome! (Bring a close friend or relative if you prefer). A date and time for the Baptism are arranged through the parish priest by calling the parish office.

First Reconciliation & First Communion

First Reconciliation and First Communion are celebrated with Children who are age 7 or older. The Grade 2 Faith Formation Program is concentrated on the preparation for First Reconciliation before Christmas and for First Communion after Christmas.  If your child is older than Grade 2 and has not celebrated their First Communion, they will join the year level of their age group and the parents are given materials to do at home to prepare your child for First Reconciliation and First Communion. The materials given are user friendly and offer an excellent opportunity for the parents to share their faith with their child during this time together.  First Reconciliation and First Communion of these older children can be celebrated anytime after the preparation is completed and can be scheduled personally with the priest.

Confirmation

Confirmation is celebrated for any youth who is in Grade 9 or older. The preparation takes place from September till April each year. There are Sunday morning sessions from 10 am till 11 am at the same time when the Faith Formation program is happening for the children in the parish. There are also three sessions scheduled sometime in February and March for the youth and parents together and the sponsors are encouraged to attend as well if they are available. Confirmation generally is celebrated in April.

Marriage

Marriage preparation is a requirement for all couples who plan to be married. Contact the parish office to set up an appointment with the parish priest.
